My latest project with Greenpeace.  Ask the fans to check it out.  I am trying to make good on the Feel the Love promise!!  It is a campaign for NZ'ers to petition  for carbon emissions reduction: 40% by 2020

6/27/09 --
Hi guys!
I am beavering away on Sparty and collecting signatures for the “Sign-On” campaign for a 40% carbon emmissions reduction by the year 2020.  It's a big target but that's what scientists are saying is needed.

Global climate change is a reality and certainly not all manmade but our behaviour and careless consumption is adding fuel to a fire.  Why would we not want to slow it's progress?

I've collected a couple of dozen signatures today and had a conversation with a colleague who absolutely believes the whole thing is a myth and that we are all running around like chickens with our heads cut off on account of An Inconvenient Truth.  I was very interested to talk with him because I realized that if he believes carbon levels are less than 20 years ago and that the whole thing is media hype, then loads of people do.

He's going to bring in some data to back it up.  I'd like to see it.  I'd like him to be right so I can turn my mind to something frivolous --like being a popstar or a gymnast.  That's much more fun than reading data about no summer ice-cap in the Arctic in 10 years.

To whit, Greenpeace invited me to go do a look-see of the Peterman Glacier off the coast of Greenland where climate change is causing tropical waters to stream far north exacerbating glacier melt.  Unfortunately, I can't get enough time off work do it.  I am absolutely gutted.  I'm sure they will find someone great but I wish it was me.
Sigh,
L

7/2/09 -- Here's Lucy's letter of thanks to all the people who Signed On:

Thanks for speaking up and Signing On.  We have to tell our governments the financial recession is not an excuse to do nothing.  The catastrophe of Global Warming will make the recession look like a sour little joke.  Clearly, something has to change.  Nobody ever went out of business by adapting to the times.

John Key, carry our message to Copenhagen this December.  We care desperately about the health of this planet.

There are brilliant minds in science, engineering and agriculture who know how to reduce our contribution to Climate Change.  Let's Not waste time and knowledge.

The Earth has been so good to us.  What have we done for Her lately?
Lucy L

6/27/09 -- Lucy's back with a new message about the "Sign-On" campaign.  And a missed opportunity to go to the Peterman Glacier to see the effects of global warming firsthand.

6/18/09 -- Keisha Castle Hughes is joining the Greenpeace ship, the Esperanza. They will be documenting the effects of climate change in the Pacific.  She has started a Facebook group, Keisha Castle Hughes - Greenpeace Ambassador.  She'll be keeping everyone up to date with photos and writings of her travels on the Esperanza.  Join the group and follow their journey.

6/16/09 -- New message from Lucy: tall tales of Lookdown fish, reptiles for adoption, pregnant dragons, quarantined kitty, Kiwi squatter on Youtube, the joys of Spartacus -- Andy Whitfield, John Hannah and Viva Bianca!

6/15/09 -- Lucy will be appearing on the Spartacus panel at Comic-Con in San Diego, Friday, July 24.  Tickets for Comic-Con are sold out.

6/13/09 -- Two bits of misinformation that we'd like to clear up:
Lucy did not film a new episode of Burn Notice.
Lucy is not doing a concert in London.

6/3/09 -- Really funny video made by Lucy's friend, Jason, also starring Daisy and Julius.

6/1/09 -- The fake Lucy twitter person has been shut down!

5/18/09 -- Photo of the new pup has arrived!
Koha
Aka "Little Dog Turpsie"
Nearly 5 months old
She is a Bitsa -- bitsa this, bitsa that.
Rob cooks for her.

5/6/09 -- Lucy is not on Twitter.  Anyone writing to the person using Lucy's name is talking to an imposter.

4/17/09 -- I've moved the Lucy bEarthday list to it's own web page.

3/7/09 -- Lucy's first appearance on Angel of Death is episode 6 which airs this Monday, March 9.  And SciFiWire will have an interview with her Monday as well.

2/5/09 -- New blog from Lucy.  She had a really, really, really good time!  <G>

2/2/09 -- More Lucy concert goodies to come, but here's the song list and the versions Lucy was listening to:

Somebody to Love -- Queen
Go to Hell -- Nina Simone
Welcome to the Pleasuredome -- Frankie Goes to Hollywood
Who's That Girl -- Eurythmics
She Bop -- Cyndi Lauper
Be My Girl -- Jet
Losing My Religion -- REM/Suzie McNeil
White Lines -- Duran Duran
Gloria -- Patti Smith
Temptation -- Heaven 17
Tainted Love -- Soft Cell
The Power of Love -- Frankie Goes to Hollywood
The Reason -- Hoobastank
Hallelujah -- Jeff Buckley
Let's Dance -- David Bowie

1/30/09 -- It was magical, powerful, electric, jaw-dropping.  Lucy's voice was never better.  Her energy nonstop.  A story told in song.  Girl meets girl.  Girl loses girl.  Girl gets girl.  Here's the opening number I didn't want to give away, "Somebody to Love."  And, after all the turmoil the two characters go through, here's the happy ending, "The Power of Love."

1/29/09 -- This is it!  Tomorrow night starts Lucy's weekend at the Roxy.  Our weekend at the Roxy!  Cuz that's how Lucy sees it.  We're all together and she tells us stories.  About herself, about us, about life.  It's thought-provoking.  It's magical.  It's Rock 'n Roll!  And here's a touch of "Losing My Religion."  Another clip over on the Xena Fan Club page.

1/28/09 -- I saw the opening of the concert for the first time in today's rehearsal.  I was so excited, I could barely keep the camera still to keep filming.  It was exciting, exhilarating and it's going to bring down the house!  I can't wait to see the audience reaction  <G>

There's always been one song in Lucy's concerts that I didn't know that became my favorite.  "The Reason" is this year's heartgrabber for me.  Have a listen.

QT   WMV

This was the second band rehearsal and tomorrow is a day off.  Friday will be the dress rehearsal.  As usual, my mind boggles at the fact that they only have 2 days and a couple hours to pull it all together.  And this concert is the most ambitious Lucy has come up with.  It's a story told in concert form.  There's no dialogue, but I read the lyrics of the songs as if they were a script and was amazed at how it all fell into place.  I've got to talk to Lucy about how she built the song list.  Did she have a story in mind?  Did songs just come to her?  Did she have to hunt down songs to fill a story point?  I'm dying of curiosity.  Two more days and we'll all be together!

1/23/09 -- The Roxy concert is centered on sex, drugs, temptation and redemption.  Here's a taste of the temptation.  And see more on the Xena Fan Club site.

LUCY'S ROXY CONCERT:  IN HER OWN WORDS
This show is based on a screenplay set in the time when the music group Frankie Goes to Hollywood ruled the airwaves as well as everyone’s T-shirts. “This post-disco period was epitomized by high times in low places,” says Lawless. “Where disco was a sparkly diversion from the humdrum. The era I grew up in fully acknowledged, even celebrated, its own dark side.”

To tell the story, Lawless has chosen an eclectic mix of songs from top artists from the great Patty Smith, harbinger of it all, Eurythmics, Soft Cell and Cyndi Lauper to Garbage, Marilyn Manson and Jet.

“The Pleasuredome” brings the audience into a world of sex, drugs, temptation and redemption, about which, Lawless says,"I don't know why, but I do 'Bad-Girl' really well." She further states, "My fans always enjoy a tale of redemption...with a heapin' helpin' of Wickedness along the way."
Joe LoDuca, Emmy Award winning composer of Xena: Warrior Princess, has helped the New Zealand born star put together a remarkable band.  The show will also feature actor/singer Laura Sperrazza.

1/21/09 -- Second rehearsal clip from Roxy 09.  Lucy goes from Puppetmaster to slave in 23 seconds!  And there's another clip on the Xena Fan Club site.

1/20/09 -- First rehearsal clip from Lucy's upcoming Roxy 09 concert.  It's hard to film stuff like this when you're imagining the audience slithering to the floor when moves like this are taking place during "She Bop"  <G>

1/16/09 -- New message from Lucy in response to all the questions she got from her last blog.  <G>  For the New Zealand language-challenged among us, the first line means there are no health problems.

Don't forget Lucy on Showtime's The L Word this Sunday!

1/11/09 -- New message from Lucy and I'll be doing some filming of the rehearsals for the Roxy next week.  Hope to come back with some tidbits.

1/3/09 -- Lucy's begun rehearsals for the Roxy show.  Check out her blurb to find out more about the show and her guest artist, Laura Sperrazza.

1/1/09 -- Lucy just popped over a bio to post.  I think you will find it concise and pithy.

Born in New Zealand, Lucy Lawless became known around the world as Universal’s butt-kicking Warrior Princess, Xena.  Since then she has walked the Great Wall of China for Discovery Channel, murdered rapaciously on Battlestar Galactica, flown home on The Simpsons, and dated Larry David on Curb Your Enthusiasm.

She appears in Bedtime Stories with Adam Sandler and Russell Brand, where she plays the villainous character Aspen, whose main thrust in life is to make Sandler’s character miserable. This she did with aplomb and unbridled enthusiasm.

Since singing with Smokey Robinson, Kenny Loggins and Dionne Warwick on Celebrity Duets, Lucy has gone on to sing to sold-out rock shows in LA, NYC, Chicago and London.

12/25/08 -- Rob Tapert has a new reality horror show premiering on the CW January 7 called 13 Fear Is Real.  Thirteen people compete to "stay alive" as they face their deepest fears in an all-out elimination competition and scare-fest.  Pitted against each other in situations straight from the horror movies, the 13 will face shocking surprises, psychological scares and lots of "beware of the dark" moments, all designed by a "mastermind" of terror.  In addition to frightening them, he'll also entice individuals to work in concert with him and against the others, creating a situation in which the 13 will not only look over their shoulders but will also never be certain who is real before them.  Each week, one unlucky victim will be "killed off" via frightening challenges and game-playing until only one person is left to win the grand prize of -- fittingly -- $66,666.  Executive producers are Jay Bienstock ("Survivor," "The Apprentice"), Sam Raimi & Robert Tapert.

12/15/08 -- Lucy has confirmed she will be a guest on the Bonnie Hunt Show this Friday, Dec. 19.  And the other guest is Melissa Etheridge!  Click to find the station/time of this syndicated show in your area.

12/8/08 -- Our wandering heroine, Lucy, has landed back in LA with tales of her adventures in the new blog above as well as another hint about what awaits those of us going to the Roxy in January!

11/24/08 -- New blog from Lucy with Thanksgiving wishes to us in the US and a special thanks for the kind words she's received about the passing of her uncle, Kevin Ryan.  Also word about the portrait that was done of her by Marty Welch that's being auctioned off for Starship Hospital.  See a video of the sitting Lucy did with Marty on youtube.

11/19/08 -- Lucy's friend Marissa Jaret Winokur is returning to Hairspray on Broadway for the final four weeks of the show.  Watch Marissa talk about it.

11/10/08 -- Added Lucy's TV Guide CSI: Miami Highlights box.

11/5/08 -- New blog from Lucy about the election of Barack Obama.  An historic day for America and hope for our future if we stand behind him and do our part as citizens of this country.

10/30/08 -- Added Lucy's blog about her upcoming Roxy concert.

10/29/08 -- Added Lucy's blog about doing the Dave Hill Explosion at a small theatre in Los Angeles along with Loudon Wainwright III.  It was a riotous night.  Reminded me of the routines Andy Kaufman used to do.  At one point, Lucy took over and began interviewing Loudon  <G>

10/28/08 -- Added Lucy's blog about working on Angel of Death.  There is an interview with Zoe and photos of Lucy as Vera on Tubefilter.tv

10/27/08 -- I popped over to Lucy's house today and did some filming to catch up on things she's been doing.  I'll post the blog in daily segments starting today.  Earlier in the day, she did an interview with TV Guide about her guest role on CSI: Miami that will run in the magazine covering the week of Nov. 10 - 16.

10/14/08 -- New message from Lucy with a hint about what she has planned for the Roxy!  Ticket info here.

10/3/08 -- Lucy's working on The L Word and sends thanks for all the support the audience gave her at the San Francisco concert.  Also, a tip of the hat to the fans who submitted videos.  Here are the four that were used at this past weekend's show.

Angela  "Are You Gonna Be My Girl"
Berkin  "Damn I Wish I Was Your Love"
Angela  "Hallelujah"
Sara  "Bitch"

10/1/08 -- And now . . . The Squirrel Tapes!

9/29/08 -- The fan music video submissions were quite successful.  As Lucy said, there are a lot of talented editors in Xena fandom.  Four of them were used in the Herbst show.  And we're gathering some of the others to potentially use at another concert.  I'm going to post tomorrow the videos that were used.  Here's another clip from the dress rehearsal -- Lucy doing "Damn I Wish I Was Your Lover."

9/28/08 -- Lucy took her concert to San Francisco this weekend and brought the house down with a great performance and some unexpected frivolity.  I've never been backstage during Lucy's shows, but I was this weekend.  I'll tell that story later.  The reason I bring it up is that when Lucy left the stage after her encore, she came up to me to ask how the show went.  I heard the crowd continuing to cheer and yell and starting to chant her name.  I hollered at her, "You want to know how it went, listen to that!  You gotta go out and take another bow!"  She'd never done that before, but I kept waving my arms saying, "You gotta go out there!!"  So she did.  And that brought about the frivolity.  They had been playing around with an idea during the dress rehearsal to redo one of the concert songs based on the audience saying what style they would like the song sung in that would be different from the normal version.  So that's what Lucy decided to do.  The finale song was "Bitch" and she shouted out to the audience to suggest another style.  They came up with Bluegrass.  So the band broke into the number. And then Lucy asked for another style and they did a Blues version.  Below is Lucy doing the song country style during the dress rehearsal.  Lots more rehearsal footage and stories to come.  And thanks to all who made the trek to San Fran for a wonderful night!

9/21/08 -- LUCY ON CSI: MIAMI AND THE L WORD!  Read the new message from Lucy above.  She also gives us a first-hand view of what it's like to be the offspring of a person in the political arena.

9/2/08 -- MAKE A VIDEO FOR LUCY'S SAN FRAN CONCERT!
Check out Lucy's message.  Lucy's asking for video submissions to use behind some of the songs she's going to be performing at her San Francisco concert Sept. 27.  The deadline for submissions is Sept. 15.  As you can see from Lucy's note, she's thinking of using them at this concert, but it isn't guaranteed.  She might use them at a later date.  If you have any questions, contact me at lucylawlessfanclub@dslextreme.com

8/17/08 -- Lucy will be doing a full solo concert at the Herbst Theatre in San Francisco on Saturday, September 27, at 8pm.  You can buy tickets here.  You can read about the concert here.  I should have a blog from her about it shortly.  Michael Orland will again be her musical director.  I'm guessing some of the band members from her last Roxy gig will be there.  It should be a great night!  I wonder what she'll be wearing?  <G>

7/22/08 -- Lucy seems to have been high atop a mountain in Queenstown, NZ -- and she had her trusty iPhone with her.  So we get not only a new message, but a photo as well.

(skiing Mt. Coronet, NZ)

Lucy has also confirmed that she will be at the San Diego Comic-Con this Thursday, July 24, 4:45 - 5:45pm in Ballroom 20.  It's a panel called "SCREAM" Like a Girl hosted by director Kevin Smith.

7/1/08 -- Two more CityWalk concert clips with the songs that ended the show, "River Deep Mountain High" and "Bitch," er, "Witch."  <G>

6/28/08 AFTER THE CONCERT!  I always loved going to concerts in Central Park when I lived in New York City.  The music going out over the buildings, filling the sky.  The cool winds, people filled with excitement at being outdoors and everyone swaying in time with each other.  It was magical.  And Lucy's concert tonight brought it all back.  She soared on the waving hands and raised voices of the fans up front and made converts of the people walking by.  Here's "What's Up," "Fooled Around and Fell In Love," and "Hallelujah."

6/28/08 -- TONIGHT'S THE NIGHT -- LUCY'S FREE CITYWALK CONCERT!
And yesterday, the band met for the first time.  It's incredible.  When Michael handed them the song charts, that was the first time they had seen them except for two songs that are holdovers from the Roxy 08 concert.  Which tells you that she's using the same musicians.  That's the skill it takes to be a studio musician -- they hand the the music and you begin to play.  Magnificently, I might add.  Here's a taste of "Are You Gonna Be My Girl."

6/23/08 -- New message from Lucy about working as a troll on Bedtime Stories and prepping for this Saturday's concert at CityWalk.

6/22/08 -- Lucy has started rehearsals with Michael Orland for the CityWalk concert this coming Saturday.  They meet in Michael's studio, along with two very large dogs!  Today they worked on what songs to include from Lucy's five concerts and what order to put them in.  Here's a bit of "Superstar."

6/20/08 -- Here she is, right in the beauty parlor.  Quality of the photo isn't that great, but check out those eyes against the new color.

6/19/08 -- Lucy's getting her hair done.  Normally that wouldn't rate an announcement, but . . . wait till you see the photos she's taking with her phone as it shapes up.  Word to the wise, check back to this space.

Meanwhile, here is the first of a series of clips of the dress rehearsal of Lucy's London concert.

5/31/08 -- LUCY CITY WALK CONCERT
Universal City Walk Concert
Los Angeles, CA
June 28, 2008
9PM
about one hour long
in front of the movie theatre

5/21/08 -- New message from Lucy with heaps of thanks for the great time we all had at the London concerts.  And she's going to be doing a free concert up at Universal City Walk on June 28 -- come one and all!

5/5/08 -- Lucy was texting me and I didn't know it so above are two new messages.  One about the concert -- which hadn't happened yet.  And one about Marissa on Dancing.  The concert, if you haven't heard from those who were there yet, was the best!!  Best band, best club, best sound and lights -- oh, yeah, and Lucy's performance.  Just a tad . . . spectacular!!!  We were breathless when it was over.  People were standing around in shock.  Fourteen songs, only two of which we had heard her do before.  I just don't know how she puts these shows together with so little time.  By the end of Sunday's show, the audience was so loud the performers were holding their ears and falling over laughing at the hysteria they were creating <G>  And then there was Lucy's pants or, should I say, the lack thereof.  I heard the photos were winging their way around the world before the clock chimed midnight.  After the Sunday show when the audience had gone home and the set was struck, Lucy said, "Take my picture, take my picture!"  So I did.

4/23/08 -- You may have noticed the new message from Lucy about the content of the upcoming London concert.  I think the people sitting down at the show are going to be glued to their seats and the standees are going to be passing out all over the floor!  What a ride this is going to be  <G>

4/6/08 -- The SciFi channel has started to post Lucy's Battlestar interview and part 1 is now online.  She told me she answered 12 questions so there will be more to come.

4/1/08 -- Message from Lucy about Marissa making it through the latest round on Dancing!  Also news on BSG, Bedtime Stories and a couple girls we know doing their religious best in an upcoming movie called Bitch Slap.

3/18/08 -- Lucy filmed her Battlestar bit on the David Letterman with the BSG cast.

3/8/08 -- Many of the Battlestar cast are going to be on David Letterman, probably next week, doing "Ten Reasons to Watch Battlestar Galactica."  Lucy will be joining them if she can get the time off from filming Bedtime Stories.

3/3/08 -- Check out Lucy's new blog -- she's been cast in Adam Sandler's Christmas release feature film, Bedtime Stories!!  Talk about everything falling into place, it's an incredible tale of how things come about in Hollywood.

2/17/08 -- Just added the David Mack "Cowboy Lucy" drawing for sale in the photo section.  It's an 11 x 14 print on parchment paper.  As in the past, Lucy has signed some of them and they'll be sent out randomly.   The paper is pure white although my scan came out a bit gray.

1/13/08 -- New message from Lucy talking about the exciting time she had meeting Dean Kamen at the Consumer Electronics Show in Vegas.  The inventor of the Segway got her fired up about getting more kids involved in science and technology.  We're going to need brilliant minds to get through the problems we're dealing with now.  She also is giving us a hint about her upcoming concert at the Roxy.  It involves cowgirls and evening gowns!  And, to celebrate her foray into country music, she's releasing the David Mack drawing of "Cowboy Lucy."  It will be for sale on the website and at the convention.  An 11 x 14 print on parchment paper.

1/7/08 -- Lucy's Saturday Roxy concert sold out!  Not a square inch left in the room.  Friday VIP tickets are sold out and there are only a few standing room tickets left for Friday.  Talked with Lucy over the weekend and she's so excited about the show she's planning.  I told her to get the camera ready to record some rehearsals so we could have a peek at what she's planning.

1/3/08 -- Let's start the New Year with a clip from Coffee Talk 6 starring Lucy and Renee.  This clip is called "The Missing Voice of Elmo."  Lucy tells the story of her appearance at a benefit for the Young Storytellers Foundation.  There will be another clip up on the Official Xena Fan Club page tomorrow.

12/29/07 -- Here are a couple photos from the filming of Coffee Talk 6.  Next week, I'm going to get a couple clips from the shoot and put them up here and on the Xena Fan Club page.

9/23/07 -- In an earlier message, Lucy talked about the photo shoot that gave birth to Disco Lucy.  Here's the first in a series of clips that shows what led up to the photo I'm using as a still to click on for the videoclip.

8/12/07 -- Here comes Part Two of Lucy's recent adventures.  This time she's at the REAF rehearsal singing "Footloose" with Gene Reed and Marissa Jaret Winokur has the camera.

8/11/07 -- I gave Lucy the club videocamera to take to Comic Con and the REAF benefit.  Her daughter, Daisy, was with her and started the filming.  Then Lucy got her hands on the camera and Katie Sackoff was her target.  Onward Lucy and the camera went to San Francisco and, well, you'll see what happened there tomorrow.

6/26/07 -- As she's done previously, Lucy signed some of the new Heart Tattoo shirts and the Alek Adorian outfits photos.  I took a photo of her working with the designer of the shirt.  Instead of notes inside the hems of the shirts, she signed on the front.  When it came to signing the new items, as so often happens, we did it out of the back of my car.  It was a dark street on a dark night.  I'm glad a squad car didn't drive past us and ask what we were doing.  Ah, adventures with Lucy.

3/30/07 -- You all know Lucy's performing at the Dinah Shore Weekend Girl Bar Pure White Party tonight at the Hotel Zoso.  (Boy, that's  mouthful!)  Yesterday afternoon she met with choreographer Michael Schwandt and her dancers and went over the three numbers she'll be performing at midnight.  Got out my trusty camera and filmed the rehearsal.  Click on the image below (QT version) to watch Lucy working out to "I'm the Only One" by Melissa Etheridge.  She started out getting a few of the steps in the hallway while another performer was going through their routine.  Then it was into the studio and under the hot lights.  Boy, I miss the smell of Warrior Dancer sweat  <G>  (wmv version)  (Big file, give it time to load)

2/24/07 -- I popped over to Lucy's house and she regaled me with the story about how the cd came about.  She mentions that it started with a photo shoot which I filmed and I'll start putting up clips from that day.  It was wild and crazy and Lucy was having a ball!

Lucy Lawless displays the Insignia of a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit at Government House in Auckland. Her citation reads: "For services to entertainment and the community. Lucy Lawless has had a long film, stage and television career in New Zealand, Canada and the Unites States.

She is most famous for creating the role of Xena in the series Hercules and the 6-year season of Xena, Warrior Princess, both American television series which were shot in New Zealand. She has also made several stage appearances and tours.

She is on the Board of Trustees of the Starship Children’s Hospital in Auckland and promoted a Starship Foundation/Sky City fundraising campaign for Puawaitahi, New Zealand’s first multi-agency centre for abused children. She was patron and speaker at the Women in Film and Television International Summit in Auckland in April 2004."

UPCOMING PROJECTS

Lucy did the voice of Goldmoon for an upcoming animated feature film based on the Dragonlance books.

Lucy popped me a note: " I am off working on Ted Raimi's internet pilot this morning.  I am playing an executive with a nasty problem to solve that involves polaroids going to the wrong recipient."

DAVID MACK PAINTS LUCY LAWLESS

"I am thrilled to have been painted by the great, Dave Mack.  He did a few studies of me just for the hell of it.  I told him all I really wanted to be was a cowboy and he made me look like a total fox!! . . . in a Brokeback Mountain sort of way."
